JC TranJ.C. Tran, whose full name is Justin Cuong Van Tran, was born on January 20, 1977 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. He moved to the United States when he was 2 years old, he is the youngest of eight children and currently lives in Sacramento, California. He received a degree in business management from California State University, but shortly after chose poker as his profession. He is regarded as one of the most competent tournament players around.

Although he had been playing poker since 2000, 2006 was the breakout year for JC. He made more than $1.1 million and final tabled 10 major tournaments. The same year he finished 3rd in the Card Player: Player of the Year race.

If 2006 was his breakout year, 2007 was even better. JC made 3 WPT final table appearances, including finishing 2nd at the L.A. Poker Classic for $1,177,010, and then winning the WPT World Poker Challenge in Reno worth $683,473. He cashed 4 times at the WSOP and he finished off the year by winning a $5,000 buy-in, No-Limit Hold’Em event, during the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic. That win was worthanother $523,075. With results like that, he went one better than the previous year, finishing 2nd in the Card Player: Player of the Year.

2008 saw JC win his first WSOP bracelet, cash in 7 WSOP events and make 3 final tables. His bracelet came in the $1500 No Limit Hold‘Em event where he took home $631,170. 2008 was also the year JC won the Premier League III for another $300,000.

In 2009, JC cashed more than $700,000 in live tournaments, made 3 final tables and won his second WSOP bracelet in the $2500 Pot Limit Omaha event.

JC is known as a live tournament player, and with 11 first place finishes, countless final tables and over $8 million in tournament winnings, it’s easy to see why.
